October Recap

October is one of my very favorite months. I love the leaves, candy, conference, soup, kids in costumes and an excuse to wear scarves and boots everyday. Too bad it's over.

Bret and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary at one of my favorite places, Midway, UT. It's a quaint and peaceful little town, not to mention beautiful in the fall. We had a fun time riding around the valley on bikes and stopping at all the local stores. We stayed at a cute bed and breakfast, Johnson Mill, which I highly recommend to anyone looking for a getaway that's not so far away at all.

Coincidence? I think not.

Homeward Bound

Bret and I love animals, especially dogs. In fact, we've discussed the idea of opening up a ranch for abandoned dogs should we someday have the funds (donations welcome). I think it's because we've both been lucky to have had great dogs growing up.

My dog, Rosie, has been around and a loyal friend since I was eight. But she's getting on in years and I've often wondered when her time will come. In fact, things were looking pretty bad a couple of weeks ago when she was sick. I prepared for the worst and took this picture with her just in case (It's cuter without me in it). Luckily she's on the mend and will hopefully be around a little longer.

Rosie ran away once when we moved and it's because of other animal lovers that she was returned to us. I will always be grateful to those people, and I've since wanted a chance to pay it forward for another lost dog. Well two weeks ago, I finally had my chance. Sort of.

I was driving home from work when I saw a beautiful dog prancing through oncoming traffic. I immediately jumped out and ran after it. Luckily it still had it's leash on dragging behind it so it wasn't too hard to catch. Buddy (as we called him) was an especially friendly dog, but big and full of energy. Bret had to come help me get him in the car and back to our place. Here he is in the back of our car.

He had a collar and leash on but no tags for identification. We tried calling the humane society hoping that they could help us find his owners but they were closing and asked if we could we keep him overnight. Sure, why not? I bought him some food and treats and he seemed to be happy, but it soon became apparent that buddy was not an inside dog.

Here he is playing with Bret (not attacking him)

We decided to leave him in a gated backyard behind a home where three couples in our ward lived. We had plans with friends for dinner so we said goodbye to Buddy and planned on picking him up when we got back so he could stay the night inside with us. When we got back, Buddy was gone.

Either he got out somehow or someone let him out (we're a little skeptical of a bitter old lad that lives near by). We were both crushed and drove around the whole neighborhood frantically looking for Buddy. No sign of him. Not only was I disappointed not to be able to return him home to the family that loved him, but we had really come to love him too.

Bret and I often wonder what Buddy could be doing or where he is now. I like to imagine that he's on an epic journey home and that we were simply a chapter in his grand adventure back (see movies below). At least we were able to give him a little food and some love. Good luck Buddy, wherever you are.

The moral of this sad story: put tags on your dogs.

Dancing the World

Laura and I have started a tradition of making videos of us dancing wildly wherever we go. At the end of our lives we hope to have a number of dances we can look back on. This is the first of a series of dances that I will showcase on our blog. See if you can guess where this one is.

A bouquet of newly sharpened pencils.

We've been slacking on this blog thing lately. Fall has turned out to be a busy time which is interesting since neither of us are in school this year (I'm pretty sad about that actually). Bret just graduated in August which begs the question, now what? Well, we're trying to figure that out. We've been looking into and debating several options that will hopefully lead to a conclusion soon. In the mean time we're still in Provo, working, and enjoying our time with friends and family. Here's a little taste of what we've been up to lately:

A camping trip was the last big thing we needed to accomplish this summer and we finally made it up a couple weeks ago with the Scotts and the Wilsons. We love having the Wilsons near by again.

It was a little cozy fitting six people in a four man tent so spooning was unavoidable. Luckily it was only awkward for Bret and Matt.
Breakfast turned into a great experiment. Some methods of making breakfast burritos were not as successful as others (ask Bret about his egg-cooker 2000).

It feels like there were more weddings in the last month alone than throughout the entire summer... and I've dragged poor Bret to most of them. Melissa was a particularly gorgeous Bride.

This last weekend my mom and my sisters had a fun weekend away from it all. We stayed up at a condo in Midway and had some quality girl time with no husbands and no kids over 7 months allowed. We had lots of fun going out to dinner, sewing, going on walks, organizing our family pictures, watching "bonnet movies", hitting up the outlets and being able to talk without being interrupted.

Wives and daughters watching Wives and Daughters. Quite fitting.
Yes, my mom knits all our stockings.

Only Lily and Norah were invited of the kids. They're pretty cute.

The boys likewise had their own male-bonding activities while we were away that mostly involved Rock Band (shirts, I am told, were optional).
Bret and I also spent the last week watching my sister Amy's four kids while they were in England. It's a good thing they're pretty cute too!

Ps. I will reward anyone who can reference the title of this post.

Washington Adventures

As cool as they are, it's about time we blog about something other than our birds, so here it goes: A couple of weeks ago, Bret and I finally had some free time to visit our family up in beautiful Liberty Lake, WA (just outside of Spokane). We had a great time hanging with the fam, celebrating birthdays, playing at the cabin and getting to know our cute little nephew Ty better.

Here's some highlights from our trip:

Some acrobatics.
